CAHS Journal An Easy Upgrade for Newsletter Subscribers |
First of all, in these pandemic-restricted times, it is heartening to see the membership renewals continue to come in. We hope you are enjoying the members-only side of the website as much as the site's traffic monitoring suggests. It is equally encouraging to see so many newsletter subscribers become CAHS National Members, and so many new members join us seemingly out of the blue! This is, in many cases, a product of newsletter sharing. Please continue to share this newsletter with your aviation-minded friends and associates. If, as a subscriber, you enjoy the content of our newsletter and website, we're especially confident that you will enjoy our flagship publication, the CAHS Journal. Follow this link to take you from subscriber to member with just a few clicks. The Anywhere-Online membership, which gives you access to all digital editions of the Journal through to the end of the year you join, is just $25.00! The latest print edition Journals, 57-1 and 57-2, are now on their way to Traditional Members mailboxes. Take note, however, that Canada Post still appears to be experiencing delivery delay issues with some destinations, some of the time. In the meantime, both Traditional Members and Anywhere-Online Members are reminded that they can immediately and always access the digital editions of these and every other Journal published sincce 2010 on our website's members only area. From Volume 57 onwards, the CAHS Journal digital editions now include colour reproduction of photos and artwork on all inside pages, providing that originals were supplied by our Journal contributors in colour, of course. Print editions will continue to be printed with B&W reproductions of this colour content in place. |

| | With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of aviation icon, Frank Henley on May 4, 2021. With an aviation career spanning more than 50 years that stretched over both military and civilian aviation. Frank Henley played an influential role in developing Arctic routes, aerial mapping and planning and building Hydro-Quebec’s infrastructure for air operations. He was inducted into both the Quebec Aviation Hall of Fame and Canada’s Aviation Hall of Fame and was honoured as a recipient of the Trans-Canada (McKee) Trophy and the Order of Canada. | RCAF Veteran of the Second World War Celebrates His 103rd Birthday |
|
|
Happy Birthday George Kelley!George Kelley, an airplane mechanic for the RCAF during the Second World War. When he was stationed in England he helped to ready planes for the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day and helped to repair aircraft that returned damaged from battle. George is a Life Member of the Jervis Bay Memorial Branch #53 of the Royal Canadian Legion. On May 31, 2021, George celebrated his 103rd birthday! We would like to encourage any family or friends of George to send him birthday wishes/cards. J. Oliver Sturk (22 April 1928 – 23 April 2021)J. Oliver Sturk passed away peacefully the day after his 93rd birthday after a brief stay in the Queensway Carleton Hospital. Sturk worked as a Defence Scientist at the Department of National Defence for 35 years, followed by 22 years at the Chemical Warfare Laboratories. Fulfilling a long-time dream, Sturk became a pilot after retirement, going on to travel cross-country to attend aircraft shows and becoming a Member of the Aviation Society and the Aviation Museum of Ottawa.
