The Canadian Aviation Historical Society wants to acknowledge the people impacted by the forest fires that have been devastating Western Canada this past month, including the town of Jasper, Alberta where a third of the town has been destroyed, residents have only just begun to return home, and the tourism season has been severely disrupted. If our readers are able to donate, we would like to highlight that donations made to the Red Cross will be matched by both the Alberta Government and the Government of Canada until 24 August, so every $1 donated becomes $3. We would like to also bring to your attention another donation campaign spearheaded by Alpine Book Peddlers (one of the book suppliers who enabled the CAHS to offer discounted rates for Shirlee Smith Matheson's books in our book store. Alpine Book Peddlers was scheduled to deliver books to Jasper tourist spots the week that the national park had to evacuate because of the wildfires. Because of the devastation, Alpine Book Peddlers has decided to donate the profits from 100 titles that they were going to deliver to the Jasper area to a local charity supporting evacuees. Check out the titles of the publisher's Jasper Donation Book List to see how many books you may be able to order and help the Jasper community at the same time. In this book, the only published account of the experiences of a Cold War flier over Canada, Scott recounts his recruitment by the air force, the early training which graduated only two of a hundred young men, and his many adventures flying as a navigator in the two-crewmen Canadian-built CF-100 jet. Then, on the nights of 2/3 June, 3/4 June and 4/5 June, deception raids were carried out on coastal gun positions in the Pas de Calais region.
